Globally recognized project analytics thought leader and software entrepreneur. With 20+ years of experience & several highly successful Project Management (PPM) software companies under his belt, Dan has a unique combination of solution innovation combined with extensive project management experience including advanced scheduling, risk management, project analytics & artificial intelligence. This experience has been used to lead multiple successful software company start-ups with Dan being a true visionary & renowned marketeer.

As CEO and founder of Acumen, Dan organically developed this now widely recognized industry-leading project analytics company. Acquired by Deltek in 2013, today, the Acumen suite of products (Fuse, 360 and Acumen Risk) are used by thousands of Fortune 500 project controls specialists.

Dan drives a reputation for making complex business challenges simple, and this is reflected in his passion for software usability and innovation. In 2012, Dan was awarded Innovation of Year for the invention of the widely-accepted Fuse Schedule Index™. In the same year, Acumen achieved a high ranking on the Inc 500 Fastest Growing Companies list as well as being recognized as one of Austin, TX’s fastest growing companies.

Paul Self

Co-Founder | | 

Paul has dedicated his career to the project management space. A passionate business leader who takes pride in understanding what clients really seek from their business partners; honest rapport, trust and the delivery of expertise in meaningful and relevant terms. In the early days of his career, he implemented and consulted on project management solutions for numerous Fortune 500 companies. He carries specific expertise in Aerospace & Defense, Government Contracting and Energy markets and the nuances of how project management practices are applied within each.

Prior to BASIS, Paul led the global Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) sales team at Deltek and supported key acquisition activity, due diligence and acquisition integration efforts. These efforts included the acquisition of Acumen and its successful integration into Deltek nearly doubling revenues from that component of the PPM business during his tenure.

Chris Kam

VP Engineering | | 

Chris has spent his career building critical web applications, designing intuitive API’s, and spearheading infrastructure projects. In his prior role as a software engineer on the Corporate Application Services team at National Oilwell Varco, Chris was responsible for identifying strategic opportunities for new development and leading their implementation. Leveraging an ever evolving technology landscape, Chris worked to modernize legacy systems through the use of web standards and new methodologies, breathing new life into mature applications. Chris also oversaw all development and support for the company’s public website significantly improving reliability. 

Brian Mikinski

Senior Software Engineer |

Brian has committed his professional career to developing innovative software solutions for complex engineering problems. He has software engineering experience in a variety of industries ranging from energy to insurance. In his most recent role in insurance, his focus had been on improving legacy application architecture through domain-driven design and the adoption of modern web technologies. From his experience, he has developed a passion for software architecture and streamlined DevOps practices which he brings to his role at BASIS.

Jacqueline O'Connor

Operations | | 

Jacqueline has over 15 years of experience working in the project management industry. She has extensive experience directing business operations, negotiating and managing contracts and overseeing company finances. Jacqueline was the operations director for Acumen, a software company that was named as one the 50 Fastest growing companies in the US.  Prior to that, she developed her skills leading contract negotiations on major projects and subsequently managed all aspects of those contracts. She has a Masters degree in business administration and a bachelors degree in science. 

Melissa Kam

Marketing & Customer Success | | 

Melissa has spent her career in healthcare and hospital administration. In her previous role as Director of Operations at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, she collaborated with internal and external stakeholders as the owner's liaison for a $722M Breaking New Ground campus expansion project. Melissa also previously directed Interpreter Services, International Services, and Signature Services, promoting standardized processes and exceptional customer service. During these roles, she developed a keen interest in internal/external relationship development and construction project management.

Melissa now applies these interests and experiences to Marketing & Customer Success at BASIS.

Paul Hughes

Paul’s experience includes over 35 years Oil industry experience globally in Project Management, Project Controls and Risk Management as a Department Head managing project services across a worldwide portfolio of projects.  Deep expertise in the areas of Front End Engineering, Design, Fabrication, Construction, Hook-up & Commissioning, for both onshore and offshore Oil & Gas facilities.  Paul is an expert in project management stage gate and project assurance processes in support of safe, predictive and competitive project delivery.

This experience has provided Paul with a proven track record of successful project execution in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. 

 Adam Battani


Adam has practiced law for over 20 years in a variety of law firm and business settings, including large national law firms, small transactional boutiques and general counsel roles for both an early stage Internet company and a publicly traded enterprise software company. Having handled a wide range of transactions in a variety of settings, Adam brings a practical and business-like approach to the legal process. He has worked with a wide range of clients in the technology and recycling and renewable energy sectors – from established public companies to private equity owned enterprises and emerging companies developing disruptive technologies and businesses in the software, Internet, and e-commerce spaces.
